Drain technology
The district of Erlangen-Höchstadt and the city of Erlangen have jointly renovated the Spardorf indoor swimming pool. The aim was to make the pool fit for the future, with a particular focus on sustainability and modern technology. The refurbishment included improved fire protection, the creation of barrier-free access and new changing rooms. Particularly noteworthy is the revision of the fire protection concept, which also improved the escape routes. To fulfil the fire protection requirements, KESSEL drains made of the composite material Ecoguss were used. These drains can be fitted with the special Fire-Kit, which swells automatically in the event of a fire and closes the drains in accordance with regulations. As a result, they fulfil the highest fire resistance class R 120. Ecoguss drains also offer high heat resistance and low thermal conductivity, which means that they do not represent additional fuels or ignition sources in the event of a fire. These properties make Ecoguss a particularly sustainable solution for demanding pool operations. A total of around 85 drain bodies were installed. Customised solutions had to be developed for the approximately 180 metres of stainless steel channels and covers in the pool circulation area, as the floor structure only allowed for a low height during the renovation. The new slotted channels and box channels in the shower area were made of V4A stainless steel, a particularly corrosion-resistant material that can easily withstand high temperature fluctuations and chemical loads. This stainless steel fulfils the high hygiene requirements needed in swimming pools and ensures a long service life for the drainage systems.
